A Day In The Life

Elizabeth Edwards died today. This morning, the news reported that doctors had advised her that further cancer treatment would be futile and she had, perhaps, only a few weeks to live. Then, word came late this afternoon that she had passed away.

This saddens me; I am human. Any life that succumbs to disease is a tragedy. When a strong and empowered woman, who is dedicated to her family dies, it hardly seems fair. Elizabeth fought for all that in which she believed. Independent, hard-working and at the same time feminine with the number one priority being her children and family.

These descriptions and adjectives also remind me of another woman, someone that I greatly admire. Strong and steadfast in her own beliefs, she has always put her family-her husband and children-first. She is my sister Doreen. The passing of Elizabeth Edwards saddens me because I see so much of Doreen in her. It also reminds me that I can never say "I love you" or "I'm so proud of you" too often.
